Preliminary Task: Semiotics

Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols. It is a way of understanding the literal and the possible meaning of images and words.
Denotation - Refers to the literal meaning of a word, also known as the 'dictionary definition'.
Connotation – Refers to the associations to the word or the possible emotions behind it.
Images in semiotics-
-  Camera angles - what do they suggest?
- The composition of the shot, how props are used and the background.
-  Is It a close up or long shot? What do they suggest?
- Who is it?
- What they are wearing?
- What do they look like (image/expression/eye contact) and why is it done?

The use of my main cover star for the school magazine, connotes the idea that Biddulph High School is a happy place, emphasized by her smile, and hint of laughter. The use of uniform also suggests that the school is smart and promotes uniformity.
