Main Task: Colour Symbolism

Colours convey meaning in two different ways - natural associations and psychological symbolism influencing our emotions, our actions and how we respond to various people, things and ideas.
In media, different colours are used to portray different contexts, moods and personalities of protagonists sometimes foreshadowing events.

Some examples of colour symbolism include;

Red - Red is often associated with danger, passion and lust, and heat. On the other hand, red is the colour of blood, and as such, has strong symbolism as life and vitality. Red is often seen on signs giving a command i.e. stop signs, emphasising danger.

Blue - Blue is the coolest colour - the colour of the sky, ocean, sleep, and twilight. Whilst turquoise is associated with youth, aqua is the colour of high ideals.

Yellow - Yellow is the seen most as the "happy colour". The shade of yellow determines the meaning. Pure, bright and sunny yellow is the easiest colour to see. Yellow is full of creative and intellectual energy.

Green - Green is the colour of nature, fertility and life. Green symbolizes self-respect and well being whilst also suggestive of balance. It also means learning, growth and harmony.

Orange - Orange is a powerful colour. It is one of the healing colours yet it is also said to increase the craving for food. In addition, it stimulates enthusiasm and creativity.

Pink - Pink is the colour of universal love, a quiet colour, and the colour of beauty.

Purple - Purple symbolises spiritual fulfilment, good judgement and mystery whilst also representative of 'conceit and pomposity.'

White - White is the colour of innocence, purity and spirituality. Brides wear white in many countries, because white symbolizes a virgin. White means kindness and white daisies are a symbol of loyal love.

Black - Black represents elegance (Black tie events, Little Black Dress) , sophistication, and power, although controversially, it also symbolised death and emptiness. Native Americans  thought black was good because it was the colour of soil, which gives life.
