In order to create my masthead, I experimented with both Serif and Sans-Serif fonts, allowing me to explore different styles and appearances for my magazine. The use of Serif's give my masthead a more traditional, formal approach, usually found in newspapers and broadsheets. On the other hand, the Sans-Serif font looks more modern and is usually considered more friendly.
I asked my target audience which masthead the prefered to represent the school and this is what i found;
I have found that 14 out of the 20 people asked preferred Font 1 as they felt that font 2 was 'basic, plain and simple'. Font 1 however related more to the school appearance, linking to the orignial logo, looking more formal and respectable.
After surveying my audience as to which masthead they thought was more appealing, I started to experiment with different fonts on Fireworks, favouring the drop shadow, giving the mashead a bolder appearance, whilst making it stand out against the background.
This is a preview of my masthead on my preliminary cover. The masthead uses the school housestyle, whilst standing out from the images it is placed upon and behind.
