The image of Lady Gaga dominates half of the double page,
showing the impact she has on the music industry, also suggested by the
distinctive ‘L’ on the opposite page. On the other hand, the image contains
elements of seduction in order to appeal to the audience, whilst also promoting
sex appeal and sophistication.
The presentation of the words ‘lady GAGA’ suggests that she
is a lady, pure and honest, represented by the relaxed, italic, serif font
although GAGA is bold, and dominant presented by the use of capitals,
suggestive of her bold personality also supported by the presentation of the
letter 'L' splashed across the page. The colours used in the article suggest
sophistication and class whilst the red 'L' boasts a quirky and dominant
persona.
Although separation of paragraphs is shown with the use of
bold, drop capitals and separated into columns, the reader may tire of reading
such long, text and it is not very clear to read. In addition the placement of
the ‘L’ may distract from the article itself, whilst also making it hard to
read the text behind it.
In this double page spread there are three columns
containing an interview conducted with Rihanna, made obvious by the bold text
used in the questions asked by the interviewer. The questions follow with
‘honest’ answers as the article states 'you demanded answers' showing that the
reader specifically asked for these to be answered truthfully. This therefore
suggests the article is more interactive and potentially more interesting to
the reader.
The image used shows Rihanna looking directly at the reader,
involving the reader in the article, encouraging the reader to carry on
reading. The use of the megaphone suggests the loud personality, demonstrated
by words such as ‘siren’, also suggestive that the interviews answers are the truth
made loud and clear.
The layout of the text enables the reader to easily
understand the text as it is separated by the questions asked, followed by the
detailed answers. This also allows the reader to understand Rihanna herself and
not just the text.
The photographs shown demonstrate a clear link with the
title ‘dangerous girl to date’ suggested by the two men Taylor Swift has been
pictured with. However, the title may just be a device used to persuading the
audience to read the whole article in order to discover the truths found
within. On the other hand, the main image shown juxtaposes the title as
although the word ‘dangerous’ is coloured red, the image used shows a normal
girl, in a ‘pretty dress’. However, the pose of the main image can be seen as fun
and careless, implying that she can be considered dangerous. The placement of
this image suggests that Taylor is most important, evident by the indentation
of the text around her dress; Taylor also frames the page with her pose. On the
other hand, the placement of the images slot between the text, separating text
in order to make it easier for the reader to look at and understand.
‘People are just waiting for me to stumble out of a club’ is
separated from the rest of the text, emphasising that societies expectations
and opinions are distanced from what is actually the truth. This also is made
clear in order to keep the reader interested in the article, highlighting the
best and most interesting bits. Similarly, the questions and answers of the
interview are made distinctive in order to break up the text, and make it clear
for the reader to focus on. The bold font of the questions can also be used as
headings for the information that follows.
